A fresh start
In an effort to simplify a few things in our lives, I've consolidated our farm website, Shady Elm Farm, with Queen Bee Quilting and moved everything to a new platform — one I'm hoping will be easier to maintain and a better experience for you as a visitor. Although I manually archived all the blog posts from our former site, I've decided not to recreate them here, though I may revisit and repurpose some of them down the road.
The past few months have been difficult ones. We lost a beloved family member to cancer, and with that came many life changes. We know this is the ebb and flow of life, but some losses make you pause and re-evaluate the direction you're headed. We're grateful for your grace and patience during that time.
On a more practical note — if you have a quilt that absolutely needs to be finished before June, please do reach out soon. We have some significant home remodel projects coming up over the next few months, several of which will affect the quilting studio, so there will be some blackout dates ahead. I also have a friend with a longarm business who may be able to help, though she tends to be about three months out as well.
As for the remodelling — I'm genuinely excited. We've waited a long time to tackle some of the bigger updates on the house. Last year brought a new roof, soffits, and gutters; this year, the addition and front porch will get new siding, the doors will be updated, and our back porch will be replaced. The goal is to have it all wrapped up before the November winds arrive. Farm life means projects are always in flux, and even on a small property, it can take years to work through the list. We've managed 24 years without a garage — one of these days that will change, but likely next year or the year after. I'm patient. 😊
I'm also hoping to get back to creating products for the shop. I have a stack of designs, patterns, and ideas just waiting for that final push to the finish line. Life required our attention elsewhere for a while, but those projects aren't forgotten.
My vision for this blog is a blend of quilting, farming, and nature — a reflection of life here at Shady Elm Farm, and perhaps a little inspiration for something new you'd like to try. Lots of dreams in the works.
Thank you for reading, and until next time — blessings to you all!
